Mowgli
A physical theatre interpretation of The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
We be of one blood, thou and i…
This is how the world works: where there is a pack, there must be a leader. The leader decides whether to fight or retreat, whether there is a place in the pack for a human child – or whether he should be handed over to the Great Tiger.
Everyone knows that humans are the weakest and most vulnerable of all creatures. But who knows – perhaps the one the jungle laughs at today will become a hero tomorrow. He is unlike anyone else, and that is what draws others to him.
“We be of one blood.” According to the Law of the Jungle, whoever speaks these words receives protection.
Directors Tatyana Naumova and Pavel Samokhvalov, together with the SamArt actors, tell the story of a boy raised by wolves through the language of the body. Kipling’s The Jungle Book is brought to the stage almost without words. Set designer Marina Evdochenkova creates a mesmerizing visual world in which the actors resemble not animals of the jungle, but fashion models on a runway.
Winner of the V All-Russian Festival of Theatre for Children The Fairy Kingdom (Sevastopol, Crimea); participant of the international youth theatre festival Ricca Ricca Festa (Naha, Japan); touring productions in Ufa, Minsk, and Novosibirsk. Recipient of the Best Production of the Season award at the Samara Theatre Muse–2018 competition.
The production uses Nina Daruzes’s Russian translation from the original English.
