And Now: Into the World! Or: I Don’t Care About Your Outside World
Sketch theatre
She can no longer stay silent. What could be worse than being young and spending evenings alone at home? She keeps saying she avoids taking responsibility. She can’t wait to grow old – only then, perhaps, will she stop being such an idiot…
The play by Swiss playwright Sibylle Berg is a monologue in which the heroine raises urgent contemporary issues and responds to them with raw, sometimes aggressive honesty.
Performed by Valeria Pavlyuk, the character speaks about violence and vulnerability, the cult of healthy living and alcoholism, unrequited love, and strained relationships with her mother. Through an intense verbal stream, fragments of her past gradually emerge. Did all this really happen? A childhood gang… illegal business dealings… Or are these fantasies of a young woman trapped in today’s world – a world obsessed with standards: the perfect body, a polished everyday life, ecological cult, and political correctness?
