Denis Khusniyarov
Artistic Director of SamArt Theatre for Young Audiences (Samara, Russia).
Born in 1980 in Perm. In 2009, he graduated from the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts (Spivak’s directing workshop, specialization: stage director of drama theatre).
He worked as Chief Director of the Masterovye Theatre (Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia), as a stage director and Chief Director of the Chamber Stage of the Vasilevsky Theatre (Saint Petersburg).
His graduation production (Cruel Games by Alexey Arbuzov) was staged at the Youth Theatre on the Fontanka. He has directed productions at the Komi-Permyak Drama Theatre (Kudymkar), Moscow New Drama Theatre, Russian Theatre in Tallinn, Holy Fortress Theatre (Vyborg), as well as at Saint Petersburg theatres: Etude-Theatre, Vasilevsky Theatre, Shelter of Comedians Theatre, G. A. Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre (BDT), Alexandrinsky Theatre, Lensovet Theatre, Malyshchitsky Chamber Theatre; and also at the Omsk Drama Theatre “Fifth Theatre”, Penza Regional Drama Theatre named after Lunacharsky, Open Stage on Povarskaya (Moscow), Chelyabinsk State Academic Drama Theatre named after Naum Orlov, Ivanovo Regional Drama Theatre, Kurgan State Drama Theatre, State Russian Drama Theatre of Udmurtia, Krasnodar Youth Theatre, State Russian Drama Theatre of the Republic of Bashkortostan (Ufa), Almetyevsk Tatar State Drama Theater, Taganka Theatre (Moscow), National Youth Theatre of the Republic of Bashkortostan named after Mustai Karim, National Theatre of Karelia, and Mayakovsky Theatre (Moscow).
His productions have received awards including the Golden Soffit Theatre Award, Breakthrough Theatre Award (St. Petersburg), and Directing Lessons Theatre Award (Moscow). His works have repeatedly been included in the Long List of the Golden Mask National Theatre Festival.
He is a participant and laureate of the ON.THEATRE festival-laboratory (Saint Petersburg) and the Young Directing laboratory at SamArt Theatre (Samara).
At SamArt Theatre, Denis Khusniyarov has staged Resurrection and Love as a Commodity, Mom, My Arm Got Torn Off (like the Sketch Theatre project).
